After two weeks of sightseeing and fabric shopping the day has finally come. Sewing is up. Yay!
Po dvou týdnech památek a nakupování látek konečně nastal den, kdy jsme měly šít.
Puneet and his wife Prachi, whose place we´re staying at when in Jaipur, were so kind and introduced us to a glorious madam Mona, who is a friend of them. Imagine a feminine warmhearted being with a great sense of style. Mona owns one very cute boutique with clothing and she also sews tailor made stuff. Tho not her in particular, she has 2 tailors to do that for her, clearly.
Puneet a jeho žena Prachi, u kterých bydlíme, nás seznámili se svou kamarádkou Monou, překrásnou a milou elegantní dámou. Mona má butik s oblečením a šije na zakázku. Teda ne přímo ona, na šití má dva krejčí.
We ran through our plans, discussed what and how we want to sew, she got our measurements and offered us to follow her into the workroom, where all the magic happens. We can then sew together with the help of the tailors. Get them things flying.
S Monou jsme se domluvily co a jak chceme ušít, poměřila nás s tím, že nás odvede do dílny a společně s krejčími vše dáme dohromady. Částečně můžeme šít my, částečně pánové, ať to odsýpá.
We let the guys do the cutting, yet they were too good for us to interrupt. As someone who „measures twice and only cuts once“, I could not get my eyes off them working. I stood in awe of them, monitoring their speed attentively. Kačka has fallen in love with the idea of creating a brocaded coat, I wish to own something like the typical Indian kurta (something between a dress and a shirt, usually made out of cotton, cut below bum and worn with lightweight leggings or wide leg pants.) Therefore a pair of pants needed for me too, of course. Everything has to bee colorful and in screaming colors, after all we are in India, where the life is more vibrant than anywhere in the world!
Stříhání jsme nechali na pánech, šlo jim to od ruky. Já, co přeměřuji vše třikrát, jsem pouze žasla. Kačce se zalíbil v jednom butiku brokátový kabát zdobený stuhami a já bych ráda něco na styl indické kurty. Jsou to takové košilo-blůzo-šaty, vždy nejméně pod zadek a nosí se s kalhotami. Takže kalhoty potřebuji také. Lehounké bavlněné. Vše samozřejmě barevné až až, jsme přece v Indii a život je krásně barevný!
I have to admit that my first attempt to use the „Danove“ sewing machine was not successful at all. The machine was set up to sew at the speed of 100 km per hour, or at least that is how it felt like. Although I was very careful when stepping on the foot pedal, It did not seem to work for me. Even when I took my foot off the pedal it would continue on sewing for good 40 cm before stopping. All in all my terrified face expressions totally made everyone´s day in the workroom. It had to be more than amusing.
Přiznám se, že po vyzkoušení stroje Danove, který měl pán nastavený asi na rychlost 100 km za hodinu, jsem šití vzdala. Nic rychlejšiho jste neviděli. Ačkoliv jsem na pedál šlapala zlehounka, stroj se rozjel tak, že jsem se pokaždé šíleně lekla. A i když jsem nohu okamžitě sundala z pedálu, ušil ještě dobrých 40 cm, než se zastavil. V každém případě můj zděšený výraz vyvolal v dílně salvy smíchu, alespoň byla dobrá nálada.
The tailors then showed me a trick, when they stop the machine from sewing manually with the help of a finger. So many countries, so many customs.
After experiencing such thing we gave up. And because Indians are extremely hospitable, we did not hesitate to accept the offer to enjoy some cookies and a cup of masala tea while sitting back and watching such able guys.
Pánové mi pak ukázali trik, že rozjetý stroj zastavují příložením prstu zepředu na patku a látku současně. Brzdí manuálně. Jiný kraj, jiný mrav.
Po této zkušenosti jsme šití vzdaly. A protože jsou Indové velmi pohostinní, další dva dny jsme v dílně strávily jako divačky a přitom popíjely masala čaj a ládovaly se šušenkami, bájo.
PS: We did get down to sewing in the end, Mona was very welcoming and let us use the workroom once the boutique was closed in the evening. We worked on a very exciting little project we might share with you guys soon. More photos coming your way!
PS: Na šití přece jenom došlo, Mona nám vřele dovolila přijít po zavření butiku a využít dílnu. O projektu, co jsme večer tvořily, někdy příště. 🙂
